A Peaceful mind in daily life is a worthy state to cultivate and dwell in.

It’s a state many people crave to have but don’t know how to find.

A peaceful mind and  life are needed by both the rich and poor.

How then do you acquire this state?

Throughout life many have sought for it through the search for money and a good mate.

But these people soon discovered that having stupendous wealth and a good mate do not wholly guarantee peace of mind in daily life, rather it’s a combination of many factors, such as lifestyle, mindfulness and intentional living.

Nothing is cast in stone as life is in a state of constant flux. Everything is ever moving and the things that brings this state today may not guarantee it tomorrow.

An example in time is the life of Billionaires Bill Gate and Jeff Bezos, who at the start of their career had supportive mates who helped them maintained balance and happiness as they pursue their quest for wealth.

However, later in life when they had become successful and stupendously rich, they discovered they needed other motivations to have a peaceful mind and life. When the center could no longer hold in the family front divorce became inevitable.

Although there are no guarantees in life, these 65 ideas to have peace of mind can help you find and maintain this state at every stage of life.

From the beginning of your career to the pinnacle. You can deploy these ideas to help you find the right fit to stay balance in all ramification.

Before we look at how to bring peace to your daily life, let’s look at the meaning of peace of mind

What Does Peace of Mind mean?

Peace of mind is a phrase used by all people everyday. And it is a state everyone including the rich and poor crave to have. But as easy as it sounds it is a difficult state to achieve. This childlike state has many advantages emotionally and physically. Let’s look at the meaning of peace of mind. In trying to understand this, I had to examine the dictionary meaning from at least four sources.

First is from vocabulary.com and it says: Peace of mind is a state in which your brain is calm, at ease, and untroubled by worry. Continuing, it states that this common phrase describes a feeling of tranquility or a state of carefree contentment that can be hard to achieve.

Merriam -Webster dictionary states peace of mind simply as a feeling of being safe or protected.

While the Cambridge dictionary sees peace of mind as a feeling of calm or not being worried.

Success Consciousness which is the last source defines peace of mind as a state of mental and emotional calmness and tranquility, with no worries, fears or stress, and without endless thinking.

From the definitions above what comes to mind is the question, can one achieve this state in a world of turmoil?. Everywhere you look in the world there’s one form of crisis or another. From hunger, wars, natural disasters like the recent earthquakes in Morocco, terrorism, kidnapping, among others vices. How can you establish peace in your heart? That’s what this article aims to achieve. But before we look at the things that bring peace to daily life, let’s examine some of the things that can cause a lack of peace in our hearts.

What Causes Lack of Peace of Mind?

Although there are certain events in life that are beyond our powers to control, we can learn to cope with them. World events like wars between countries, natural disasters like hurricanes, and Economic recession are beyond us. But knowing that these events do not occur everyday is enough to lift you up as you try to master the common everyday challenges.

Below are some things that can affect your inner peace.

Life’s Difficulties: This is the major cause of inner disturbance. When life is hard due to lack of job, economic downturn, lack of education, corruption, to mention but a few, the tendency for inner peace to take flight increases. Like they say, a hungry man is an angry man. Except for a few people who have learned to master the art of inner peace and tranquility. Having peace of mind during difficult times is elusive.

Comparing Yourself with Others: Comparing yourself with others can cause a disturbance in your emotional balance. This is usually a symptom of ungratefulness and lack of contentment in life. When you are always looking at what people are doing in their lives you expend useful energy which you could have used to make your life easier and better for unnecessary worries. When you know that the grass is always green when you water the ground, there would be no room to wish for what others have in their lives.

Toxic Relationship: When you are in a toxic and abusive relationship, your self worth and esteem is constantly undermined by the abusive partner. When this happens you can’t be happy or have peace in your heart. Toxicity in relationships can exist at home between spouse, parents and the children or amongst siblings. It can also be present in the workplace between coworkers on one hand and between bosses and their employees. Toxicity can affect your mental health, cause low self esteem and lead to low productivity.

Having Unrealistic Expectations: When your expectations are too high, you can set yourself up for failure. This is one problem people have in their personal lives. A partner who expects a saintly and an impeccable character from their partner is setting an unrealistic goal. This is because since the wife/husband is human, living in an imperfect world, you may experience intermittent flaws in behavior which will prove beyond doubt that we are humans subject to the vagaries of emotion.

Similarly, an employee who expects to attract the same rewards as the boss has an unrealistic goal. These kinds of expectations are the causes of looting, jealousy and murder in society. Therefore, dream big, but make sure they are realistic goals.

Mental Health Conditions: Any condition that can affect your mental wellness can lead to severe consequences. A person suffering from depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), is not only a threat to himself but to others. Sometimes these conditions are either caused by genetic or environmental factors. A person that has a family history of mental illness can develop these conditions because some of them are hereditary. Environmental factors such as unemployment, terrorism, earthquakes, flooding can cause a person to develop these conditions if their coping mechanism is weak. A person with mental health conditions cannot enjoy the benefits of inner peace.

Physical Health Conditions: Health is wealth. A sick person has little they can do to improve their physical and emotional balance. If a person has to grapple with their physical health constantly, they can be happy and productive.

Laziness: This is one of the reasons people suffer unnecessary hardship. A lazy person lacks the mental and physical capacity to eke out a decent living and bring their dream to fruition. They also lack the motivation to improve their lives. They are however experts at looking for shortcuts to get whatever they want. That’s why many lazy people end up in jail. Those with some ethics who refused to shortcut the system live in perpetual poverty because they lack the zeal to do something to change their lives.

Greed: This is the cause of suffering in the world. Greed is the cause of corruption experienced in most countries in the world especially in Africa where leaders have looted monies meant for developmental purposes and stashed them into private bank accounts. Thus leaving their citizens to suffer the consequences of their actions.

Greedy people want to grab things for themselves and family members. They lack empathy, love and gratitude. Unbeknown to them this is the reason why many greedy people are not happy and are always sick.

Not Leaving in The Present: Those who time traveled to the past or future can almost not find peace. This is because it is a waste of time and energy to reminisce about lost opportunities or regret past actions. What is done can not be undone, why not let it go. Also, living in the future by worrying about circumstances or hoping for future outcomes that are yet to occur is a waste of energy. The solution is to put the bulk of your attention in the present and do what needs to be done now. The future is formed from the womb of the present. So you can create what you want, while detaching yourself and surrendering the outcome to God.
